Delph Pond from the southwest - Feb 2022
The Delph Pond is located on open space between Delph Wynd, Alloa Road and Delph Road in Tullibody.
The Delph Pond is historically the common property of the village and the land around it used to be called the Village Green or the Commonry. The pond itself was once used in the winter for Curling. There has been a pair of swans resident on the Delph since the 1930s. There are also ducks there, water hens, frogs and fish.
The (now demolished) Tullibody Tannery was situated on the pond's northwest corner and used to take its water from the Delph and it is believed that the tannery modified the original pond to allow for a larger store of water.
The Delph is fed from covered streams which drain the nearby hill to the southeast and east. The pond itself drains via a covered stream or drain on the southwest corner. The area to the east of the pond was until the 1980's a reed bed with an open stream, and to the southeast a boggy wooded area, also with an open stream, where newts could once be found. The paths around the pond have been upgraded and formalised over the last fifty years. There is now a small car parking area on the southwest corner, and a small children's park to the east.
The pond is now surrounded on all sides by residential housing. On the south side, it is bordered by a substantial woodland area, which is used for education purposes, nature walks and various events.
