The Philp Family :
The Philps were related to the Haigs at an early stage in their distilling journey, and although their 60-odd year foray into the whisky business was ultimately unsuccessful, they did manage to produce a few firsts.
1760 - Birth of John Philp.
1785 - John buys Dolls Distillery, Menstrie (John Philp & Co.)
1791 - Janet Haig marries John Philp.
1792 - October, birth of Andrew Philp.
1794 - December, birth of Margaret Philp.
1797 - Birth of John Philp.
1802 - Birth of Elizabeth Philp.
1825 - Andrew Philp buys Inverkeithing Distillery.
1826 - Andrew Philp sequestrated.
1827 January - Death of John Philp, Aged 67.
Magdalene Stein Haig marries Andrew Philp.
1827 - December, Birth of Robert Haig Philp.
1833 - Andrew Philp buys Grange Distillery, Alloa.
1834 - Scotland’s first Coffey Still Installed at Grange Distillery.
1834 - Dolls Distillery renamed West Dolls Distillery, run by John Philp (Jnr).
1834 - Andrew Philp buys Kirkliston Distillery.
1846 - West Dolls Distillery sold to MacNab Bros., becomes Glenochil Distillery.
1847 - Andrew sells Kirkliston Distillery.
1848 - Death of Andrew Philp, aged 56.
1849 - John Philp & Co. declared bankrupt.
1851 - Grange Distillery closed.
