The K6 telephone box (short for Kiosk No.6) was designed in 1935 by British designer and architect Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Although it is the most famous British phone box design, it was actually the sixth standardised phone box version. The phone box was introduced by the Post Office to increase communication around the country. They were not just used in Britain, but also in the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland, Bermuda, Malta and Gibraltar.
Removed boxes are now available for purchase on the open market. Due to this, K6 telephone boxes can be found in the USA, Canada and across Europe.
Clackmannanshire has retained just six of these K6 boxes. These are located in:

There are still some more modern phone box locations in Clackmannanshire, notably a small cluster on Drysdale Street, Alloa outside the former crown post office, and one on the High Street. Many telephone box locations have been removed as they became uneconomic form a lack of patronage, mainly due to rising mobile phone use.
